Job Responsibilities
The intern will receive mentorship and on-the-job training to build capacity in humanitarian information management, including hands-on exposure to DRC systems and tools.
Support data collection, entry, cleaning, and validation across case management, protection monitoring, and referrals.
Maintain and update protection databases (e.g., Kobo, Excel, Power BI) and ensure data accuracy and completeness.
Assist in the development of dashboards, factsheets, and internal reports to inform program quality and decision-making.
Participate in field-level data collection and assessments, where feasible.
Ensure adherence to data protection and confidentiality standards, especially for sensitive protection data.
Organize and archive key program documentation, including reports, assessment tools, and case records.
Contribute quality assurance processes, identifying and flagging data gaps or inconsistencies.
Translate data findings into actionable insights to inform protection responses and advocate for the needs of vulnerable groups.
Help ensure age, gender, and diversity (AGD) considerations are reflected in protection data analysis
Support training and capacity-building efforts on protection of IM tools and principles for staff and partners.
Assist in compiling lessons learned and knowledge products to support learning and accountability.
Perform other IM-related tasks assigned by the supervisor
Skills
Basic understanding of Information Management (IM) concepts, including the data lifecycle (collection, storage, analysis, reporting, and protection).
Demonstrated interest in humanitarian protection and data management.
Familiarity with data collection and analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel (required); exposure to KoboToolbox, Power BI, or similar platforms is an asset
Ability to manage sensitive information confidentially and ethically.
Good communication, teamwork, and organizational skills.
Fluency in Somali and working proficiency in English.
Commitment to DRC’s values of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, and accountability.
Recent graduate with a degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Social Sciences, Statistics, International Development, or a related field.
Completion of short courses in Protection Information Management (PIM), data protection, Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E), Kobo Toolbox, or Microsoft Excel is considered an asset.
Previous short-term experience or placement in information management or data management roles is highly desirable
